Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), has launched Battlefield Labs – a revolutionary player testing and feedback platform designed to directly involve the community in shaping future Battlefield installments. Announced on February 3, 2025, this initiative marks a significant step towards collaborative game development.
A New Era of Player Influence
The upcoming Battlefield game is entering a crucial development phase, and Battlefield Studios recognizes the invaluable contribution of player feedback. Selected players from European and North American servers will be the first to experience Battlefield Labs, providing hands-on testing of new features and mechanics. While an exact release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via [link].
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized the importance of this pre-alpha testing phase: "This game has immense potential. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to unlock that potential by directly incorporating player feedback."
While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures the broader community will receive regular updates throughout the testing process. Future Battlefield titles will also benefit from this ongoing community collaboration. The development team comprises DICE (creators of the Battlefield franchise), Ripple Effect, Motive (developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space), and Criterion.
Testing Core Gameplay Elements
Battlefield Labs will focus on key aspects of the game's design. The initial testing phase will concentrate on core combat, destruction, weapon balance, vehicle performance, gadget functionality, and the overall integration of these elements within maps, game modes, and squad dynamics.
Two established modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, will be included, offering opportunities to refine gameplay and explore innovative improvements. Conquest, characterized by large-scale battles for control points, utilizes a ticket-based system. Breakthrough features attackers and defenders vying for sector control, with a similar ticket system but with additional rewards for successful sector captures.
The class system will also undergo refinement based on player feedback. While confident in their progress, Battlefield Studios believes player input is crucial to achieving the optimal balance of form, function, and feel. This collaborative approach promises a more refined and engaging Battlefield experience for all players.
