DICE Announces Major Battlefield 6 Movement Overhaul

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 08,2026

DICE has shared key takeaways from the Battlefield 6 open beta along with planned improvements based on player feedback.

With player engagement metrics including tens of thousands of Discord participants, over 600,000 streamed hours, and 30+ million viewing hours, the development team outlined several gameplay adjustments coming to weapons, movement, maps, modes, player counts, and playlist options.

Refining Movement Mechanics

Player feedback heavily focused on movement speed and slide-to-jump transitions. DICE is rebalancing these elements to maintain a classic Battlefield feel:

"We're reducing horizontal momentum from slides into jumps and adding penalties for consecutive jumps," developers explained. "Firing accuracy will decrease during jumps and slides, making these maneuvers more situational rather than optimal combat choices. Parachute physics also receive adjustments for better aerial control."

Expanding Map Variety

While the beta featured concentrated combat zones, DICE confirmed larger-scale maps are in development. The ongoing Battlefield Labs program (limited to NDA participants) will soon test two new locations:

  • Mirak Valley (leaked previously)
  • An Operation Firestorm remake from Battlefield 3
  • These environments will feature full vehicle combat and expanded battle spaces.

    Adjusting Game Modes

The studio recently modified Rush mode based on negative feedback, acknowledging issues with high player counts:

"Large-scale Rush matches created intensity but often led to imbalanced defenses and premature endings in the first sector," developers noted. "We're reducing default player counts to restore tactical gameplay while allowing experimentation via Portal at launch."

The team confirmed ongoing balancing for other modes like Team Deathmatch and Domination, currently working best with 8v8 configurations.

All feedback collected during the beta will inform upcoming Battlefield Labs adjustments. Players can expect continued progress updates and future testing opportunities.

In related news, EA has announced a content roadmap for Battlefield 2042 leading to October's launch, including:

  • A free legacy-themed battle pass
  • New hardware rewards
  • Revamped Iwo Jima map
  • The 'Road to Battlefield 6' pass offers 50 cross-game rewards, with 20 items unlocking in the new title at launch.
