Multiple Nintendo Switch 2 owners are finding their consoles damaged after purchase due to store receipts being stapled directly through the packaging. Photos circulating online reveal how staples easily pierce through the thin cardboard box and plastic envelope housing the console.

Widespread Issue at Staten Island GameStop

"GameStop stapled receipts to our Switch 2 boxes during the midnight launch," one frustrated fan reported after discovering damage to their new console. "Now I'm facing a potential three-month wait for replacement stock." The issue appears particularly widespread at a Staten Island GameStop location, where employees stapled receipts to numerous pre-order units during the busy launch event.

Affected customers sharing their experiences online note identical damage patterns - punctures through both packaging and the Switch 2's screen caused by receipt staples. "Midnight release disaster," wrote another customer whose console was damaged. "Over 100 people at this location - seems everyone's unit got the same treatment."

Packaging Design Under Scrutiny

While criticizing GameStop's handling of the launch, some consumers have questioned Nintendo's packaging design. The Switch 2 ships with its screen facing upwards at the top of the box, protected only by thin cardboard. "This was bound to happen," commented one social media user. "Having the screen positioned so vulnerably was a questionable design choice."

IGN has reached out to both Nintendo and GameStop for comment regarding the situation and whether they'll provide guidance to retailers about proper handling procedures. Many affected customers report planning to return their damaged units when stores open, anticipating long wait times for replacements due to current stock limitations.
