MindsEye Dev Stung as Launch Falters, Streams Axed

Author:Kristen Update:Sep 25,2025

PlayThe troubled rollout of MindsEye continues as reports emerge of canceled sponsored streams and players successfully securing refunds. Developer Build A Rocket Boy has responded with a statement expressing heartbreak over the game's ongoing challenges.

Launched on June 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, the debut title currently holds a 'mixed' user rating on Valve's platform. Primary complaints cite performance problems, game-breaking bugs, faulty AI behavior, and frequent crashes.

Notably, some players have obtained refunds—even through Sony's typically strict refund policy—drawing comparisons to Cyberpunk 2077's controversial 2020 launch. While CD Projekt's title was temporarily removed from the PlayStation Store, there's currently no indication MindsEye will face similar measures.

The situation escalated when multiple streamers reported last-minute cancellations of sponsored broadcasts. Prominent streamer CohhCarnage shared his unprecedented experience of receiving cancellation notice moments before his scheduled stream was set to begin.

Adding to the controversy, fellow content creator DarkViperAU struggled to maintain professionalism during his sponsored stream, ultimately breaking character with laughter while promoting the game.

Build A Rocket Boy addressed the mounting concerns via Discord, stating: "We're devastated that players aren't experiencing the game as envisioned." The developer identified a critical memory leak affecting approximately 10% of players as a primary crash culprit, with fixes undergoing certification for imminent release.

The studio outlined an aggressive patching schedule targeting performance optimization, difficulty rebalancing, animation repairs, and AI improvements throughout June.

While concurrent Steam player counts (peaking at 3,302) don't fully represent a single-player title's success, these figures suggest significant challenges ahead for MindsEye's post-launch recovery.
