Oblivion Remastered Hits Top 3 in US Sales 2025

Beyond its impressive Steam concurrent player counts and Bethesda's official announcement of 4 million players, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has now become the third best-selling game of 2025 in the U.S. after just one week of release.

Launched unexpectedly on April 22, Oblivion Remastered reached a peak concurrent player count of 216,784 on Steam. While remarkable, these numbers only tell part of the story, as the game simultaneously launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft's Game Pass subscription service.

Market research firm Circana reports the remaster has already climbed to third place in 2025's U.S. dollar sales rankings, trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin's Creed: Shadows. Industry analyst Mat Piscatella confirmed these figures exclude subscription-based players, confirming the title's commercial success beyond Game Pass availability.

This reception virtually guarantees more Bethesda remasters, with industry speculation pointing toward Fallout 3 (previously leaked) or Fallout: New Vegas as next in line.

Bruce Nesmith, a lead designer on Fallout 3, anticipates significant gameplay improvements for any remaster, particularly addressing the original's outdated shooting mechanics. "What you saw improved in Fallout 4 reflects what needed changing from Fallout 3," Nesmith told VideoGamer. "The combat system was Bethesda's first attempt at shooter mechanics - and while groundbreaking for its time, clearly needed refinement."

Developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered delivers numerous enhancements beyond its 4K/60fps baseline. The comprehensive update includes redesigned leveling systems, improved character creation, modernized combat animations, and revamped menus. Additional features like expanded dialogue, refined third-person perspective, and advanced lip-sync technology have led some fans to argue the project qualifies more as a remake than remaster.

Nesmith suggests any Fallout 3 remaster would likely follow Oblivion's precedent: "The visual upgrades surpass even Skyrim's Special Edition. This isn't just an HD port - it's a complete modernization that some are calling 'Oblivion 2.0.'"
