Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago

In the world of gaming, remakes of classic titles have become a celebrated trend, spearheaded by legendary developers. From Final Fantasy VII to Silent Hill 2 and Resident Evil 4, the list of iconic games getting a modern makeover continues to grow. Joining this prestigious lineup could be the original Devil May Cry (DMC), with its creator, Hideki Kamiya, expressing a strong desire to craft a new version.

On May 8, Kamiya took to his YouTube channel to engage with fans, answering questions about potential remakes and sequels. When queried about his vision for a DMC remake, he enthusiastically responded, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."

Originally launched in 2001, Devil May Cry started life as a project intended to be Resident Evil 4. However, as the development progressed, the game diverged significantly from its initial concept, leading Capcom to birth the Devil May Cry series.

Reflecting on the game's origins nearly 25 years later, Kamiya revealed a deeply personal story. In 2000, he experienced a heart-wrenching breakup that left him in despair. This emotional turmoil fueled his creativity, culminating in the creation of Devil May Cry.

Kamiya admits he rarely revisits his completed games, including DMC. Yet, when he occasionally comes across gameplay clips, he's reminded of the game's age and its outdated design elements. If he were to embark on a DMC remake, Kamiya insists on starting from scratch, leveraging contemporary technology and modern game design principles.

While these ideas remain conceptual, Kamiya's creativity is contingent on the project's green light. He confidently assures fans, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." In addition to DMC, Kamiya has also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe, sparking excitement among fans eager to see these beloved classics reimagined for today's gaming landscape.
