YouTuber Jacksepticeye, real name Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared a disheartening update with his fans in a video titled 'A Bad Month.' In this video, he disclosed that a project he had been passionately working on for a year—a Soma animated show—had unexpectedly fallen through, leaving him "quite upset."

Soma, the survival horror science fiction video game developed by Frictional Games and released in 2015, has been critically acclaimed and is one of Jacksepticeye's favorite games. His deep connection to the game fueled his excitement for the animated adaptation.

In the video, Jacksepticeye discussed a challenging creative period marked by several canceled projects. He explained the Soma animated show's development process, noting that he had been in talks with the game's developers for about a year and was ready to move into full production. However, the project abruptly collapsed when an unnamed party decided to take it in a "different direction," leaving Jacksepticeye deeply disappointed.

The cancellation of the Soma animated show has significantly disrupted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025. He had intended to focus much of his time on the project, which would have reduced his content uploads but provided him with a significant creative outlet to share with his audience. The sudden halt has left him questioning his priorities and next steps, describing the situation as "frustrating" and "tough."

Following Soma, Frictional Games released two additional titles in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, Frictional's creative director, Thomas Grip, announced a shift in focus away from horror games toward exploring other emotional qualities in their games. Grip emphasized the importance of immersive experiences, whether through horror or other themes, indicating a broader approach to game development.
