MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Loses 99% of Players

There's a whisper in the gaming community that Season 5 of MultiVersus might be the game's swan song. AusilMV, a renowned insider known for accurate game leaks, has hinted at this possibility. According to his sources, Season 5 is being viewed as a crucial, last-ditch effort to breathe new life into the game. While this remains just a rumor, the situation appears to be teetering on the edge.

When MultiVersus launched in 2022, it was nothing short of a phenomenon, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the excitement fizzled out rapidly, with player numbers plummeting by 99%. This drastic decline prompted Warner Bros. Games to close the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a relaunch in May 2024 with fresh updates, the game struggled to recapture its initial fervor.

The fifth season of MultiVersus is slated to kick off in early February, and it's being billed as the developers' final chance to win back the gaming community's hearts. This relaunch, however, is somewhat controversially referred to by the developers as a continuation from the "beta" phase that began in 2022. The decision to temporarily shut down the game in June 2023, especially after many players had invested in the premium edition to support the developers, left a bitter taste for many fans.
