Carey Mulligan Joins Cast of Barbie Director's Narnia Reboot

The highly anticipated reboot of the beloved Narnia series, helmed by Greta Gerwig, the acclaimed writer and director behind the hit Barbie movie, has added the talented Carey Mulligan to its ensemble cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan will join forces with former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep in this new adaptation of C.S. Lewis' timeless fantasy saga.

Gerwig, who will once again take on the dual roles of writer and director, is set to bring a fresh perspective to The Chronicles of Narnia with her upcoming film. This project will adapt the prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, which unfolds before the events of the iconic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Carey Mulligan, known for her critically acclaimed performances and numerous awards including Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations, is slated to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the young protagonist Digory. Daniel Craig will step into the role of the film's titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will bring to life a younger version of the series' notorious antagonist, the White Witch. Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the majestic character of Aslan, the god-like talking lion central to the Narnian universe.

This isn't the first time the magical world of Narnia has captivated audiences on the big screen. Previous adaptations between 2005 and 2010 brought to life the first three books in the series: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. These films featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.

Gerwig's latest venture into the world of Narnia follows her success with the 2023 Barbie movie, which became a surprising box office sensation. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the film garnered eight Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning for Best Original Song.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is scheduled to enchant audiences when it hits theaters in 2026.
