Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop

Gaming studio Midnight Society, co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its upcoming first-person shooter (FPS) game, Deadrop.

The studio revealed the news in an X post, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The announcement included a plea for job opportunities for its now-unemployed team members.

Midnight Society was established by Beahm, along with industry veterans Robert Bowling (Call of Duty) and Quinn Delhoy (Halo). Deadrop, a planned free-to-play FPS, aimed to leverage the team's collective experience. While targeting a 2024 release, the game ultimately failed to meet its launch window.

The studio severed ties with Beahm in 2024 following the streamer's admission of inappropriate interactions with a minor via Twitch Whispers. Despite this separation, development on Deadrop continued until the recent shutdown.

The game was envisioned within a retro-futuristic setting described as "the 80s never ended." Promotional materials showcased characters sporting Daft Punk-esque helmets, armed with both firearms and melee weapons. Gameplay was to feature a PvPvE extraction shooter format.

Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of game studios facing financial difficulties and workforce reductions. This challenging climate has already impacted major industry players such as Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs, among others.
