Lies of P Eases Difficulty for Wider Appeal

Author:Kristen Update:Oct 04,2025

The upcoming Lies of P DLC "Overture" will debut its first-ever difficulty settings, offering players more accessibility.

True to its Soulslike roots, Lies of P delivers a formidable challenge—particularly for newcomers drawn to its grim narrative. Director Jiwon Choi initially maintained that such games shouldn't include difficulty options, launching without them. However, developer Neowiz reversed this stance after considering player feedback.

The studio now acknowledges that introducing scalable challenge levels expands the game's reach. "We aimed to accommodate a broader player base," Choi explained to VGC. "Through internal reviews and community input, we've adapted the experience for varying skill levels while preserving the core gameplay."

Player reactions remain divided. Some applaud the inclusivity: "As someone who started gaming in my twenties, easier modes let me enjoy titles I'd otherwise struggle with," shared one fan. Others criticize the decision, with detractors claiming it compromises the game's integrity. Steam forums reveal heated debates, including threads titled "Difficulty Settings = No Purchase" countered by players praising the update: "The original difficulty curve was excessive."

This dark reimagining of Pinocchio blends punishing combat with a morality-based "lie" mechanic. The Overture expansion introduces Death March—a boss-rush mode—alongside fresh content including areas, foes, gear, and characters. Completion requires 15-20 hours and unlocks after reaching a specific story beat. Neowiz has confirmed a full sequel is in development.

In our 8/10 review, we noted: "While adhering closely to Soulslike conventions, Lies of P executes them with remarkable precision."
