Battlefield 6 Lighting Blinds Players, Sparks Outcry

Author:Kristen Update:Jan 04,2026

As players dive into Battlefield 6's multiplayer, exploring its maps, modes, and arsenal, they're encountering a formidable new adversary: the sun.

Millions who have experienced EA and Battlefield Studios' latest large-scale FPS in its launch week are reporting blindingly bright light effects that feel like being "flash-banged." This issue impacts every class, from Engineers to Recon, particularly when exiting buildings or, more frustratingly, when aiming down sights (ADS) from inside a structure toward the outdoors.

"It's my main issue right now," one Reddit user commented. "It actually gives me a headache."

Video evidence of this problem is hard to miss, and we at IGN have experienced it firsthand. Navigating outdoor maps is usually fine, but the moment you try to leave a building, the screen often washes out in a blinding white glare. This would be irritating in any game, let alone a competitive military shooter where precision is key.

It's unclear whether the intense lighting in Battlefield 6 affects PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox players more, or if it's a universal issue. While a few argue the effect is realistic and should remain, the overwhelming player feedback suggests otherwise.

"I've seen players using drones to pull off impossible 500-meter shots, but my operator forgot sunglasses? The harsh lighting transition from indoors to outdoors is awful," said content creator and 100 Thieves founder Matthew 'Nadeshot' Haag in a post. "This realism argument is going too far. BF6 is great, but a lot needs fixing."

"Yeah, I imagine they'll have to improve it eventually," another Reddit user added. "Looking out a window is like getting flash-banged, and looking into a building is like suddenly going blind."

Fortunately, DICE's principal Battlefield designer, Florian Le BiHan, stated in an X/Twitter post that the studio is "working on a set of improvements" to address the harsh lighting. More details on these fixes are expected "in the near future."

Until an official patch arrives, players are on their own against Battlefield 6's relentless sun, which attacks every time they exit a building—a frequent occurrence. In the meantime, some believe they've found a temporary workaround to make ADS more bearable, without needing virtual sunglasses.

There's no universal fix, but some players suggest toggling HDR on or off based on your monitor. There's also an in-game World Brightness setting, defaulted to 50, which can be adjusted. Be warned, however: turning it down too much can make environments overly dark. Others report that adjusting other graphics settings, like Performance Preset modes on consoles, has helped as well.

Again, these are not guaranteed solutions and may vary by setup, but they're worth trying while EA and BF Studios develop a permanent fix. For more on Battlefield 6, check out our 8/10 multiplayer review and visit IGN's Battlefield 6 guide for campaign collectibles, multiplayer tips, and more.
