Get ready for an exciting new experience as Guns Undarkness unveils its free demo at the upcoming Steam Next Fest. The mastermind behind the music of the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio, Shoji Meguro, is at the helm of this ambitious project. Joining him are the talented Ghost in the Shell character artist Ilya Kuvshino and the renowned rapper Lotus Juice, famous for his contributions to Persona 3.

Shoji Meguro, a long-time veteran at Atlus since 1995, has enriched the gaming world with his compositions for iconic series such as Shin Megami Tensei and Persona. In 2021, he transitioned into an indie game developer while still collaborating with Atlus on their musical scores. Post-departure, Meguro has been crafting a thrilling Sci-Fi Stealth Action JRPG, which will see the light of day under the banner of Kodansha Game Creators Lab.

Guns Undarkness first caught the public's eye at the Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and subsequently launched a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2022, surpassing its stretch goals. Gamers can dive into the free demo during Steam Next Fest, starting February 24, 2025. The full game is slated for early access release later in the year.

As per the Steam page, Guns Undarkness is a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game plunges players into a world teetering on the edge of destruction. You step into the shoes of a member of a private military company, embarking on critical missions with allies to unravel the world's mysteries and save humanity.

The gameplay is split into two core elements: stealth and combat. In stealth sections, players must navigate the terrain discreetly, gaining a strategic edge by engaging enemies undetected. When combat ensues, it shifts to a turn-based system where players issue commands, utilizing a variety of firearms to secure victory.

The demo for Guns Undarkness offers approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial that covers basic controls, the battle system, weapon handling, and early game strategies. The game is scheduled for an Early Access release in Spring 2025, providing about 10 hours of immersive playtime on PC. While an exact release date remains under wraps, anticipation is building for what promises to be a captivating addition to the JRPG genre.
