Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, "Paint by numbers," and other names, are engaging picture logic puzzles. These puzzles challenge you to color or leave blank cells in a grid according to numbers provided on the sides, ultimately revealing a hidden picture. The numbers serve as a form of discrete tomography, indicating the number of unbroken lines of filled-in squares in each row or column. For instance, a clue like "4 8 3" suggests sets of four, eight, and three filled squares, separated by at least one blank square between each group.

Solving a nonogram requires you to determine which cells should be filled (boxes) and which should remain empty (spaces). Both are crucial, as spaces later help in understanding where a clue's block of boxes can extend. Solvers often use a dot or a cross to mark cells they are certain are spaces.

It's essential to avoid guessing; only cells that can be logically determined should be filled. A single incorrect guess can spread errors across the entire puzzle, ruining the solution.
