Author:Kristen Update:Mar 22,2025

Oz Perkins, fresh off the success of Longlegs, returns with a chilling horror-comedy adaptation of Stephen King's "The Monkey." Theo James takes center stage as a pair of twins tormented by a malevolent, cymbal-clanging monkey toy. He's joined by a stellar cast including Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, and Adam Scott, all caught in the toy's terrifying game.

IGN critic Tom Jorgenson hails The Monkey as "one of the best horror-comedies (and Stephen King adaptations) in recent memory," praising its blend of gruesome kills and laugh-out-loud humor. Sounds like a must-see!

The Monkey Streaming Release Date

The Monkey will eventually stream on Hulu. Neon, the distributor, has a deal with Hulu securing the streaming rights to its theatrical releases. However, Neon's films typically take several months to reach the platform. For example, Longlegs premiered in theaters on July 12, 2024, and arrived on Hulu on February 14, 2025. While a Hulu release date for The Monkey isn't confirmed, expect a wait of several months. Digital rentals and purchases should be available via platforms like Prime Video by early May.

What Is The Monkey About?

The Monkey Book Cover

Based on Stephen King's 1980 short story (later revised for the Skeleton Crew collection), The Monkey follows twin brothers who stumble upon a sinister wind-up monkey. A series of bizarre deaths plague their family, only to resume twenty-five years later, forcing the now-estranged siblings to confront the cursed toy. The official synopsis reads: "When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree, forcing the estranged siblings to confront the cursed toy."

Does The Monkey Have a Post-Credits Scene?

While there isn't a traditional post-credits scene, a surprising element awaits those who stick around after the credits roll. For details (spoiler alert!), check out IGN's guide to the ending.
