World of Warcraft Shows Off New Plunderstorm Abilities and Features

Plunderstorm Returns to World of Warcraft with Enhanced Features and Rewards

World of Warcraft's pirate-themed battle royale, Plunderstorm, has returned, bringing with it a host of exciting new features and quality-of-life improvements. While the end date remains unannounced, players can anticipate at least a month of plundering across the Arathi Highlands.

This iteration of Plunderstorm boasts a revamped battlefield with new points of interest and respawning non-elite enemies, ensuring a constant supply of loot. Fast travel horses now roam the map, enabling quicker traversal and access to chests, elites, and opponents. A new map feature displays zone threat levels, indicating areas of frequent combat, and allows players to select their starting deployment zone. A dedicated Practice Lobby offers a space to experiment with abilities, adjust keybindings, and socialize. The Plunderstore, accessible from the Practice Lobby, login screen, and even the retail WoW PvP interface, provides access to new and returning rewards. Furthermore, players can now access the game mode while on World of Warcraft: The War Within characters.

New Plunderstorm Features:

  • Revamped battlefield with new points of interest
  • Respawning non-elite enemies
  • Fast travel horses
  • Zone threat indicators on the map
  • Selectable deployment zones
  • Practice Lobby
  • Plunderstore with new and returning rewards
  • Game mode access while on World of Warcraft: The War Within characters

New Abilities:

The addition of new offensive and utility spells significantly enhances gameplay. Offensive options include:

  • Aura of Zealotry: Passively boosts ally movement speed and allows consecration of the ground, damaging enemies periodically and granting enhanced movement speed and melee attack buffs within the consecrated area.
  • Celestial Barrage: A long-range, chargeable attack that calls down a barrage of moonbeams to damage enemies.

Utility spells include:

  • Call Galefeather: Summons an eagle to knock back enemies.
  • Void Tear: Creates a Void mark; recasting instantly teleports the player to the mark, damaging and slowing enemies in the process. The recast is instantaneous, even while casting other spells.

Ability Balance Changes:

Several existing spells have received cooldown adjustments:

  • Earthbreaker: Cooldown reduced by 2 seconds at all ranks.
  • Slicing Winds: Cooldown increased by 2 seconds at all ranks.
  • Star Bomb: Cooldown reduced by 2 seconds at all ranks.
  • Storm Archon: Cooldown reduced by 2 seconds at all ranks.
  • Toxic Smackerel: Cooldown increased by 1.5 seconds at all ranks.

Notable Absence:

The three-person Trios mode is absent from this iteration of Plunderstorm. The reason for its omission remains unclear.

In conclusion, Plunderstorm's return offers a significantly enhanced battle royale experience with new features, abilities, and a refined gameplay loop. The addition of the Practice Lobby and Plunderstore further enhances accessibility and player convenience. While the absence of Trios is disappointing, the overall improvements make this a worthwhile experience for World of Warcraft players.
