Upcoming Sony-Published Game Drops PSN Requirement on PC

Lost Soul Aside: PSN Account Linking Removed for PC Release

Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market considerably.

Initially, the PSN linking mandate, implemented by Sony for its PC games last year, sparked considerable backlash. The restriction prevented sales in over 100 countries lacking PSN support, limiting reach and revenue. However, Lost Soul Aside's Steam page initially mentioning the requirement, then swiftly removing it, suggests a shift in Sony's strategy.

Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside hails from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony funds and publishes the game for both PS5 and PC, the decision to drop PSN linking for the PC version is a notable departure from previous practices.

This marks only the second time Sony has reversed its PSN account linking policy for a PC game, the first being Helldivers 2. This reversal suggests a potential softening of Sony's stance on the requirement for future PlayStation PC titles.

The reasons behind this decision remain unclear, but the likely motivation is to maximize player reach and sales. The poor performance of some PlayStation PC games following the introduction of PSN linking, such as God of War Ragnarok's significantly lower player count compared to its predecessor, may have influenced this change. By removing the restriction, Sony aims to broaden Lost Soul Aside's appeal and achieve greater success on the PC platform.
