Townsfolk adds three additional factions in whopping new update

TownsFolk has introduced three exciting new factions in its latest update.
The Tsardom, Shogunate, and Sultanate each bring unique buildings and strategic advantages.
This update also features fresh puzzles, new challenges, and a host of other enhancements.

With its blend of grid-based puzzles and city-building mechanics, TownsFolk stands out as another clever creation from Short Circuit Studios. Known for hits like Teeny Tiny Town and Teeny Tiny Trains, the studio is clearly pouring significant effort into TownsFolk—especially with the addition of these three original factions.

The three new factions are the Tsardom, Shogunate, and Sultanate. If their core themes aren’t immediately clear, here’s a quick overview:

  • Tsardom: Think fantasy Russia. With a large population, it leans on Faith to compensate for lower Food and Gold yields. It also features the Sky Dock for aerial control and the Tesla Tower for powerful defense.
  • Shogunate: Transitioning from fantasy Russia to fantasy Japan, this faction thrives on water tiles, transforming coasts and rivers into powerful growth engines. Combined with Onsens, Water Pavilions, and Sky Pagodas, it excels in high production and rapid population growth.

Now, the Sultanate. This faction is among the most demanding—much like its Arabian roots, it depends heavily on desert trade and hidden reserves to survive. Gold flows abundantly, but managing Food and Water requires careful balance.

Thankfully, Oil Refineries offer a resource edge, Trade Caravans generate steady income, and grand Mosques boost culture, giving this faction its own distinct strengths. All three new factions arrive alongside new puzzles, a weekly challenge mode, a revamped compendium, and a subtle but delightful addition: unique appearances for every guard tower—both old and new.

There’s no denying there’s a lot to love here. And if TownsFolk has sparked your appetite for strategy, you’ll find even more ways to rule the world in our list of the best strategy games on Android.
