Take-Two CEO Confident Despite GTA 6 Delay, Stock Slump

Author:Kristen Update:Jan 18,2026

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has sought to calm worried shareholders after the announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI’s postponement.

Earlier today, Rockstar confirmed a significant delay for GTA 6, which many expect to become the largest entertainment release in history. Originally scheduled to launch in fall 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game will now arrive on May 26, 2026. This moves the title’s release from Take-Two’s 2026 fiscal year into its 2027 fiscal calendar.

Following the announcement, Take-Two’s stock initially dropped 7.98 percent at the time of writing. In a statement on its corporate site, Take-Two reaffirmed projections for sequential growth and record Net Bookings (revenue) during Fiscal Years 2026 and 2027.

Zelnick personally weighed in, confirming Take-Two endorses Rockstar’s decision to delay GTA 6 and assuring shareholders the company forecasts sustained, “multi-year” growth.

“We wholeheartedly support Rockstar Games taking the necessary time to fulfill their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, projected to be a landmark, blockbuster entertainment title that surpasses fan expectations,” said Zelnick.

“We take game scheduling seriously and acknowledge the immense global excitement surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI. Still, our dedication to quality remains unwavering. With our outstanding pipeline of upcoming releases, we anticipate a multi-year trajectory of business expansion and increased shareholder value.”

With GTA 6’s previously assured multi-billion dollar revenue now shifted out of the 2026 fiscal year, attention turns to what else Take-Two has on the horizon. Besides Rockstar, the company owns 2K Games and 2K Sports. Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 is set for a September launch, while Mafia: The Old Country is also slated for this year. Another profitable NBA title, NBA 2K26, is on the way from 2K Sports, too. Further out, development continues on the next BioShock installment and Ken Levine’s upcoming project, Judas.

Realistically, however, none of 2K’s upcoming releases over the next year or so can match the colossal scale of GTA 6, leaving Take-Two with lower-than-expected revenue in the near term. Many GTA 6 fans, while expressing disappointment over the delay, admit they anticipated it—though some had hoped for at least a new screenshot to ease the news.
