Saros Is Housemarque’s Successor to Returnal, Arriving in 2026

Housemarque's next title, Saros, a successor to the acclaimed 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal, is set to launch in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro.

Unveiled during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros retains the signature Housemarque style. Players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-changing planet shrouded in an eclipse and menaced by a formidable entity. The game's atmosphere and the "come back stronger" tagline strongly suggest a roguelite structure, while the fiery combat showcases Housemarque's mastery of bullet-hell mechanics.

PlayCreative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's signature gameplay-focused design. While a new single-player IP, it expands upon Returnal's engaging third-person action.

However, significant gameplay differences distinguish Saros from Returnal. According to Louden's PlayStation Blog post, a key element is the inclusion of permanent progression and resources. While the game world dynamically shifts upon player death, players will retain and upgrade their weapons and suits permanently.

Further details and an extended gameplay showcase are anticipated later this year. For a complete overview of the PlayStation State of Play announcements, refer to our comprehensive recap.
