Rumors are swirling about a potential Nintendo Switch 2 port of Red Dead Redemption 2, which could be hitting the shelves by the end of 2025. Additionally, there's buzz about a next-gen upgrade coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. According to GameReactor, insiders close to Rockstar Games have hinted at this exciting development, suggesting that the Switch 2 version and a "next-gen upgrade patch" for current-gen systems could be released as early as later this year. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve the gaming experience on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

Similar reports from Nintenduo indicate that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 might launch within Take-Two's current financial year, ending March 31, 2026. It remains to be seen whether this port will be available digitally or as a physical edition.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 first launched in 2018, it was hailed as a "masterpiece" by IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review, earning a perfect 10/10 score. The review praised the game as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."

The prospect of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to the Switch 2 might not be surprising, especially after Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "great optimism" for Nintendo's new platform during a Q&A with investors. Zelnick highlighted that Take-Two is planning to launch four titles on the Switch 2, including Civilization 7 on launch day (June 5), the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series, and Borderlands 4 on September 12. He noted that this is a more extensive lineup than they've ever offered for a new Nintendo platform, signaling a stronger partnership with Nintendo this time around.

Zelnick also mentioned that while not every title would be brought to every platform, there are significant opportunities for catalog releases. This opens the door for other games from Take-Two's back catalog, such as GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2, to potentially make their way to the Switch 2 in the future.
