Phasmophobia Devs Team With Blumhouse On Film Adaptation

Author:Kristen Update:Dec 20,2025

Phasmophobia developer Kinetic Games is collaborating closely with Blumhouse on the upcoming film adaptation of the game.

In an interview with IGN about the recent Grafton Farmhouse map redesign, art director Corey J. Dixon shared his thoughts on how Blumhouse plans to translate Phasmophobia's innovative gameplay to cinema.

While it might be easy to assume this adaptation could resemble a generic ghost-hunting movie, Dixon emphasizes that it will be a distinct "Phasmophobia film" crafted specifically for the game's fans.

"We've established a strong partnership with Blumhouse. It's fantastic," Dixon explained. "This won't just be another ghost film—we're ensuring it stays true to Phasmophobia, something our community will really enjoy. We're working hand-in-hand with them.

"They're very open to our input, and we're equally excited to collaborate," he continued. "So yes, it's a solid partnership, and we believe fans will be thrilled with the final product."

Last month, it was announced that Kinetic Games' acclaimed ghost-hunting title, Phasmophobia, is heading to Hollywood. Horror powerhouse Blumhouse — known for films like Five Nights at Freddy's, The Conjuring, and M3gan — has teamed up with the UK studio to produce a feature film. Details remain scarce for now, with no information on the director, writer, or cast.

“This is a huge milestone for our entire Kinetic team and the beginning of an exciting journey,” stated Daniel "Dknighter" Knight, director of Kinetic Games. “We never anticipated Phasmophobia reaching this level of success since its debut five years ago, and we’re deeply grateful to our incredible community for the game’s lasting influence.

"Partnering with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster opens an exciting new chapter for Phasmophobia, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the project evolves.”

Blumhouse's previous video game adaptation received mixed reviews; we rated Five Nights at Freddy's 4/10: "This film adaptation of the indie horror phenomenon suffers from an overstuffed plot and lacks the tense, camera-based suspense that made the game so compelling." A sequel is scheduled for December 2025.
