"Nintendo Switch 2 Image Confirms C Button on Joy-Con"

Author:Kristen Update:May 17,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, putting an end to the swirling rumors. This confirmation came through the newly released Nintendo Today! app, where keen-eyed users spotted the letter 'C' on the button in the app's promotional images on both the App Store and Google Play.

The C button was first showcased alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images of the new Joy-Con did not feature any lettering on the button. Speculation had been rife, with many believing it to be the "C" button, and now Nintendo has validated those reports.

Some theories suggest it could be used for "casting" the Switch 2 to a TV wirelessly or for screen sharing. Others speculate it might switch the Joy-Con's functionality, such as into a mouse mode. There's also talk about it possibly being linked to new group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button and other features. In the meantime, here's what we know for certain:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The new console is larger than its predecessor, featuring larger Joy-Con that appear to be usable as a mouse.
  • It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some Nintendo Switch games may not be fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
