Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to grant players a level of freedom that marks a significant departure from the studio's earlier works. Inspired by the expansive world of Elden Ring, the developers are set to introduce open-world exploration mechanics into this new title. Journalist Ben Hanson has shared insights suggesting that the game will be set on a vast, singular planet, where players will delve into the enigma of a lost civilization and explore a burgeoning new religion, which will be central to the narrative. While it's not yet clear how closely the game will align with traditional open-world concepts, it's clear that the team is moving away from the linear gameplay that defined their past projects.

In a first for the studio, The Heretic Prophet will feature a solo protagonist experience, with no companions or allies. Neil Druckmann explains that this choice aims to evoke a profound sense of solitude within an uncharted universe, while also exploring deep themes of faith and religion. The story unfolds in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, isolated from the galaxy for over 600 years. It is on this planet that bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives to fulfill her contract.

Druckmann further reveals that the game's development drew inspiration from titles like Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island, hinting at a narrative style that encourages players to piece together the story from scattered fragments, rather than relying on traditional hints. This approach suggests a shift toward more immersive and self-directed storytelling.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was announced at The Game Awards 2024, though a release date has yet to be set. This eagerly anticipated title promises to blend the thrill of exploration with deep narrative elements, creating a unique gaming experience.
