Despite facing mixed reviews on Steam, Monster Hunter Wilds has surged to over 1 million concurrent players, setting a new record for the franchise. According to SteamDB, the game reached an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players, surpassing the peaks of its predecessors, Monster Hunter World (334,684) and Monster Hunter Rise (231,360). However, the game currently holds a "Mixed" review status on Steam, with only 57% of its 54,669 reviews being positive. The predominant criticism revolves around the game's poor optimization and performance issues on PC.
In response to the backlash regarding Monster Hunter Wilds' PC performance, Capcom has taken proactive steps. The official Monster Hunter support account, Monster Hunter Status, addressed these concerns via a Twitter (X) post on February 28, 2025. They directed players to the game's support website, which offers detailed troubleshooting guides. These guides suggest updating video/graphics drivers, installing the latest Windows updates, and performing a clean installation of video drivers. For persistent issues, Capcom recommends further steps outlined in the Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread on the Steam community page.
A significant issue plaguing Monster Hunter Wilds is a game-breaking bug that prevents a vital NPC from appearing, blocking progress in Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 "A World Turned Upside Down." Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025, confirming that the development team is actively working on a fix. Additional reported issues include the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking as intended, and problems with visiting the Smithy. Capcom has addressed these with hotfixes and updates across various platforms.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, players must purchase microtransactions to edit their characters and Palicos. The game offers the Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack for $6.00, allowing three character edits. For those wishing to customize both their character and Palico, a $10 voucher is available, also offering three edits each. While basic changes like hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing can be altered without cost, more extensive modifications require these vouchers. Notably, Capcom is providing a single free voucher for character edits. These microtransactions were not part of the game's testing phase but were announced beforehand by Capcom.
Monster Hunter Wilds is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates and more information on Monster Hunter Wilds, be sure to check out our detailed article below!
