Marvel's Blade reboot has been a subject of much discourse, with questions about whether it will ever be released. However, there is some positive news emerging about the project.
Five years after the initial news about the Blade reboot, the movie is still not released. Despite the heavy criticism Marvel has faced over this prolonged production, there remains a glimmer of hope. Will the movie ever see the light of day?
After a series of negative news, the Blade reboot is finally getting some positive updates. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blade's production is not planning to stop just yet. Originally envisioned as a period piece, the reboot is now set in a modern setting. While the current plot details are unclear, the script is planned to be rewritten over the summer as they seek out a new director.
Recently, the Blade reboot was reported to be back to "square one" due to dissatisfaction from some "key players," disappointing those eagerly anticipating the movie's release. However, there is some positive news that brings hope to the prolonged production. The script is undergoing another round of rewriting, with plans to complete it by the end of the summer. In the meantime, the team is seeking a new director following Yann Demange's departure after almost two years on the project. If these changes proceed as planned, there is renewed hope for the movie to finally see the light of day. However, the rewrites could mean significant changes to the plot.
Originally, the story was set to be a period piece set in the 1920s, with Blade's daughter taking the central role instead of Blade himself. Lilith, played by Mia Goth, was reported to be the vampire villain targeting Blade's daughter's blood. In Marvel Comics, there are two versions of Lilith: one is Dracula's daughter, and the other is the monstrous Mother of Demons, although it was not specified which version would appear in the movie. With the new plot now expected to be set in a modern setting, the direction of the story may change significantly.
The source reported that previous directorial changes were due to concerns that the directors were not a good fit for the project. Bassam Tariq was reportedly let go for this reason. Mahershala Ali, the star of the movie, was given a list of directors by Marvel, but he chose to conduct his own research to find the perfect fit. This list largely featured filmmakers who had not previously worked with a big studio like Marvel, which presented a significant challenge. Ali envisioned the reboot to be "his Black Panther," which explains his years-long dedication to the project. As for the rest of the cast, Mia Goth's name is still attached to the project, but it is unknown if her role has changed. Both Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre are no longer part of the reboot, having left the movie after the writers' and actors' strike in 2023. For now, the premiere date of the Blade reboot is still set for November 2025, but this is also subject to change.
Blade is expected to be released on November 7, 2025.
