After engaging with the Elden Ring: Nightreign network test, Choi Ji-Won, the director of Lies of P, found himself invigorated by the experience. During the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), he shared with Eurogamer his admiration for the Souls genre and reiterated his affinity for FromSoftware titles, which is reflected in the creation of Lies of P.

Discussing Elden Ring: Nightreign, Choi remarked, "Playing Nightreign was incredibly refreshing and innovative. It showcased the developers' continuous push to expand their boundaries and vision, which in turn, inspired me to enhance the Overture experience to the best of our abilities."

This inspiration has led Choi to consider new horizons, stating, "Looking ahead, we're certainly open to exploring various possibilities, including multiplayer games."

Despite his admiration for FromSoftware, Choi clarified to Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC that his inspiration doesn't stem from a single game. Instead, he draws from a diverse array of gaming experiences, molding them into the unique Lies of P experience. "I draw inspiration from many different games, combining those diverse influences into the Lies of P experience that I'm crafting for our fans," Choi explained.

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players between 15-20 hours to complete, packed with numerous bosses and additional content initially intended for the main game. "Overture isn't a standalone expansion; it's intricately connected to the base game, making its development a challenge to complete the Lies of P experience," he added.

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to Krat during its final days, following a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts that couldn't be included in the game's original release due to development constraints. Choi likened this expansion to a Director's Cut, suggesting it serves as the final piece of the game.

He acknowledged the community's support post-launch, stating, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize quality, which meant we couldn't include everything at once. The community's support encouraged us to deliver all we wanted in this expansion."

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

In an interview with IGN at the 2025 GDC, Choi clarified that Overture is not directly linked to the final cutscene of the base game. While the ending provided a glimpse into potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director's Letter that a sequel is in the works, though details remain scarce.

Choi emphasized the team's commitment to quality, stating, "When we share news or assets with you, it's because we're ready to present them. Our focus on quality amidst pressure is a promise we maintain."

He encouraged fans to revisit the base game for hints about what Overture might hold and shared his appreciation for fan theories, noting that some were remarkably close to the mark.
