Firaxis will change Civilization 7 after a barrage of criticism

Following a less-than-stellar debut, the developers of Civilization 7 at Firaxis Games have committed to enhancing the game with a focus on improving its interface and gameplay. The game currently holds a 47% positive rating on Steam, with player feedback primarily centered on the game's simplified interface, missing features, and lack of content rather than the mechanics themselves. In response, Firaxis has prioritized interface enhancements, promising to improve map readability, refine menus, and enhance overall user-friendliness.

The developers plan to introduce several new features:

  • The ability to form teams in multiplayer mode.
  • New types of maps to explore.
  • Customization options, including the ability to change names of religions and cities.

Update 1.1.0, which will include balance adjustments and improvements, is scheduled for release in March. The full release of Civilization 7 is set for February 11.

Many reviewers have pointed out that the game was released prematurely and requires significant additional work. The $70 price tag has come under particular scrutiny, with players feeling it does not match the current state of the game. Fans of the series are hopeful that Firaxis will take their feedback seriously and release updates that address these issues, restoring the game to the high standards expected of the Civilization franchise.

Supporters of the Civilization series are eager for Civilization 7 to uphold the series' tradition of excellence and meticulous detail, but acknowledge that it currently falls short of these expectations.
