James Gunn, head of DC Studios, has hinted at a major cameo appearance toward the finale of Peacemaker Season 2—though he remained tight-lipped about whether it's a character from Superman or another figure within the rebooted DC Universe.
The upcoming Superman film takes place chronologically before Peacemaker Season 2, which debuts on HBO Max (yes, the platform has reverted to its original name) on August 21, 2025. Supergirl follows on June 26, 2026, while Lanterns still lacks a confirmed premiere date. Both projects are set after Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 within the DCU timeline.
A recently unveiled Peacemaker Season 2 trailer features Superman allies Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner vetting Peacemaker for team membership—a process that doesn't exactly go smoothly for him.
Gunn told Entertainment Weekly that Peacemaker Season 2 maintains strong narrative ties to Superman while setting up future developments, with additional surprises layered throughout.
"Fans saw what we call the QUC (Quantum Unfolding Chamber) in Peacemaker's first season, and Superman further explores this technology," Gunn revealed.
"The QUC plays a pivotal role in Season 2's storyline. We'll encounter several Superman characters—Isabela, Nathan, and Sean—alongside unexpected DCU appearances later in the season. The finale might even feature one extraordinarily significant guest star."
The director confirmed Season 2 occurs years after Season 1's conclusion, though the DCU's exact chronology remains flexible. "Having worked at Marvel, I understand how challenging tight continuity can be. We're looking at an unspecified span of several years," he noted.

Recent developments confirm numerous character crossovers between Superman, Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, and Lanterns. With potential timeline complexities emerging, fans question whether DC will adopt Marvel's Disney+ chronological ordering system.
When asked about this on social media, Gunn clarified that DCU projects currently follow their release sequence—though some may include flashbacks—starting with Creature Commandos, followed by Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, and Supergirl.
"For now, the timeline aligns with release dates," Gunn stated, "though certain stories contain historical sequences."
While Marvel's Disney+ offers an official chronology feature, Gunn's remarks suggest HBO Max won't immediately implement similar functionality—though this may change as the DCU expands.
Confirmed upcoming DCU entries include Clayface (September 11, 2026), while The Authority faces developmental challenges. Gunn acknowledged Peacemaker spinoff Waller has encountered "several setbacks," though Booster Gold progresses smoothly and Paradise Lost remains "a priority undergoing active development."
Regarding character management, speculation continues about Superman's handling of its expansive supporting cast. Recent trailers spotlighted Mister Terrific, The Engineer, newcomer The Hammer of Boravia, and enigmatic villain Ultraman.
