Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 19,2025

In *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is crucial, and anointing is a key mechanic that can significantly boost your gameplay. However, mastering this system can be a bit challenging due to its complexity. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2*.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Unlocking the ability to anoint your amulets and Waystones requires you to progress further into the game, as you'll need Distilled Emotions, which are obtained from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original *Path of Exile*, you might recognize Distilled Emotions as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random assortment of these emotions. Alternatively, you can acquire them through currency exchange or the trade market.

To upgrade Distilled Emotions, utilize the Reforging Bench. You'll need three of the same type to create an upgraded version of that emotion, allowing you to tailor your collection to your needs.

For those seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions, though this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to tackle the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Currently, you can anoint Waystones and amulets in *Path of Exile 2*, which is still in Early Access. More anointing options might be introduced in future updates. To anoint an amulet, select a Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. The choice of emotion here is irrelevant. Place the amulet in the central box, then insert a Distilled Emotion into each of the three bottom boxes. The specific emotions required for the desired anointing ability can be found by hovering over a Notable Passive Skill in the Passive Skill Tree and pressing alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this effect is not permanent. You can alter the passive skill anointed on an amulet by repeating the anointing process, allowing the new skill to override the old one, which lets you adapt to your current build's needs.

The same anointing process applies to Waystones, which can become more challenging but also yield better loot. Note that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.

With this guide, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, boosting your current build, or challenging yourself by anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2* is currently available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
