AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D: Top Gaming CPU Now Back in Stock on Amazon

Author:Kristen Update:Jun 13,2025

If you're in the process of building a new gaming PC and searching for the best gaming processor available today, your search ends here. The newly released AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D AM5 desktop processor is back in stock on Amazon at its MSRP of $489 shipped. As the current pinnacle of gaming performance from AMD—and across both AMD and Intel lineups—it's a smarter investment for gamers than the pricier Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.

AMD's X3D series processors are engineered with gaming in mind. Thanks to AMD's innovative 3D V-Cache technology, these CPUs outperform even the top-tier standard Ryzen models in gaming benchmarks. While it's still capable of handling multitasking and light creative work, its core configuration makes it less ideal for heavy productivity tasks like rendering or content creation.

At $489, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D offers tremendous value—$100 cheaper than the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K ($589) and $160 less than the Ryzen 9 9950X. Despite being more affordable, it delivers superior gaming performance compared to both. Unless you're committed to Intel or stuck on an older AM4 platform and not ready to upgrade components, the 9800X3D is clearly the best choice for your next gaming build.

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Review by Jacqueline Thomas

"The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is extremely powerful in games, making it easier to recommend over other recent processors like the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K or Ryzen 9 9900X. Especially if you’re pairing it with a high-end graphics card, the 9800X3D ensures you get the most performance possible out of your GPU."

The Other Zen 5 "X3D" Chips Are Out of Stock

Alongside the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, AMD also launched two higher-tier Ryzen 9 models in the Zen 5 "X3D" lineup: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D priced at $699 and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D at $599. Together, these three CPUs represent the strongest gaming processors currently available from both major brands.

Unfortunately, both the 9950X3D and 9900X3D are currently sold out. However, for pure gaming builds, the 9800X3D remains the optimal pick. Gamers can save that extra budget for a better GPU or additional RAM. On the other hand, creators who want both elite-level gaming and productivity performance will find the Ryzen 9 chips worth the cost due to their increased core counts and cache sizes.

For creative professionals who also demand top-tier gaming performance, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is the ideal option. It features a maximum boost clock of 5.7GHz, 16 cores, 32 threads, and a massive 144MB of L2-L3 cache. In terms of gaming, it only slightly edges out the 9800X3D, but where it really shines is in productivity applications. Whether editing video, rendering 3D scenes, or running complex simulations, this chip easily outpaces all other X3D processors and anything Intel currently offers.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D Review by Jacqueline Thomas

"While the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D may be one of the most powerful gaming processors on the market right now, it doesn't always offer a clear advantage across every use case. Most users will find the Ryzen 7 9800X3D more than sufficient for their needs—and it's significantly more affordable at $489. That said, the 9950X3D is perfect for gamers who also run creative software like Photoshop or Premiere Pro, where it shows up to a 15% performance improvement over the 9800X3D. For a dedicated gaming rig, though, you'd likely benefit more from spending that extra $220 on a better graphics card."

The Ryzen 9 9900X3D strikes a middle ground between affordability and performance. It's tailored for users who engage in creative work and enjoy gaming but need to stay within a budget—especially those who find the 9950X3D too expensive. With a max boost clock of 5.5GHz, 12 cores, 24 threads, and 140MB of L2-L3 cache, it slots neatly between the 9800X3D and 9950X3D in terms of performance. While we haven’t reviewed it yet, based on specs alone, it should deliver strong results in both single-threaded and multi-core workloads. Gaming performance is expected to remain competitive with the rest of the X3D lineup.
