Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs

Author:Kristen Update:May 18,2025

The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation behind the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains one of the most formidable graphics cards available. It outshines the RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX in performance. The only GPU that surpasses it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously hard to find at its intended price, often marked up by hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

As the RTX 4090 has been discontinued, finding it has become challenging. Fortunately, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PCs equipped with this powerful GPU at reasonable prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 starts at $2,999.99, and the Dell Tower Plus is priced at $2,849.99. These are among the best deals currently available for an RTX 4090-equipped system, especially since other manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have stopped offering RTX 4090 prebuilt gaming PCs.

$2,999.99 at Alienware

This Alienware Aurora R16 comes with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The processor can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though for gaming, the default CPU is more than sufficient. With a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores, the Intel Core Ultra 7 265F is robustly cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus, while less flashy, is packed with similar specs: an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Upgrading the CPU to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K for an additional $100 is recommended, as it enhances the cooling system to an advanced air cooling setup, suitable for a 125W TDP, and is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?

The RTX 4090 is the pinnacle of the RTX 40 series, with only the RTX 5090 offering superior performance among the new Blackwell cards. It excels at running games at 4K resolution with settings maxed out and ray tracing enabled, achieving over 60 fps, particularly when DLSS is utilized. The RTX 4090 struggles only with path tracing, a feature typically used for benchmarks or showing off on social media. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's performance is more than adequate, making the RTX 5090's incremental improvements less compelling.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and costly, but its performance is unparalleled. It's the only card of its generation currently available, making comparisons to older models somewhat unfair. However, with its impressive hardware and DLSS 3 AI enhancements, the $1,599 price tag feels justified for the exceptional frame rates it delivers."

Dell also offers the Alienware Aurora R16 with the new RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. The RTX 5080 is one of the new Blackwell series cards, which are scarce. In our review, Jackie notes, "For gamers with recent high-end graphics cards, the RTX 5080 might not be a significant upgrade over the RTX 4080. However, its DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation does enhance game visuals. For those with older GPUs looking for a substantial performance boost, the RTX 5080 is a great choice, especially if you're on board with Nvidia's AI enhancements."
