Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Support Cloud Saves

Author:Kristen Update:May 06,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, putting an end to recent speculation and fan concerns. Initially, the game's page on Nintendo's website included a disclaimer stating that the software would not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature. This led to worries among fans that enhanced versions of Switch 1 games, including Tears of the Kingdom, might not offer this functionality.

However, in a reassuring update, Nintendo has revised the information on its website. The new disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom on the Switch 2 clarifies that while save data from the second save data slot on the Switch 2 version cannot be transferred back to the original Nintendo Switch, players will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2. This clarification should ease the minds of Switch 2 owners who were concerned about losing their progress.

Interestingly, the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all mentions of cloud saves, leaving its status unclear. Meanwhile, the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition page now features a similar disclaimer, indicating a consistent policy for save data transfers across these enhanced titles.

Amidst this news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have gone live, maintaining a price point of $449.99. The response has been as enthusiastic as anticipated. For more information on securing your own Nintendo Switch 2, you can refer to IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
