All we have of Dragon Quest 12 is this logo released in 2021.

Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has officially confirmed that development continues on Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, dispelling cancellation rumors.

First announced during the series' 35th anniversary in 2021, this marks the first mainline sequel since 2017's acclaimed Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Updates have been scarce since the initial reveal, with Horii only confirming in February that Square Enix's team was "working hard" and promised information would be shared gradually.

Breaking his recent silence in a new Gamereactor interview, Horii reassured fans: "Yes, we're still developing it - I'm dedicating tremendous effort to make it exceptional. While I can't share details yet, please continue anticipating its release."

Though fans may have hoped for gameplay footage or screenshots, this confirmation provides relief amid concerns about Square Enix's restructuring and prolonged silence.

Adding to fans' concerns, 2024 saw the passing of two Dragon Quest legends - character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. Series producer Yu Miyake also transitioned to lead Square Enix's mobile division earlier in the development cycle.

The only tangible material remains the 2021-revealed logo, maintaining the mystery around this next major JRPG installment that continues its development journey toward completion.
