WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC

A planned paid DLC for the highly popular game, Hogwarts Legacy, has been canceled, as reported by Bloomberg. Warner Bros. had intended to release a story expansion this year, coinciding with the launch of a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the project was abruptly halted this week.

According to Bloomberg's sources, the cancellation stemmed from concerns that the content of the DLC did not justify the price being considered. Warner Bros. declined to provide a comment when approached by Bloomberg.

This decision comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled its anticipated Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions. Additionally, WB San Diego and the MultiVersus developer, Player First Games, were also closed. Last September, Warner Bros. also laid off staff at Rocksteady Studios.

Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has declared a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy to be "one of the biggest priorities," aiming to focus on fewer but larger franchises. This commitment is underscored by the original game's impressive sales, exceeding 30 million copies.
