Space Marine 2 Reveals Techmarine Class, Power Axe, and Chaos vs. Chaos Mode

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 gears up for its second year of DLC with exciting details on the major 10.0 update.

The smash-hit Space Marine 2, with 7 million copies sold, secures Year 2 support, as confirmed by Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive. A community update revealed that Year 2 will introduce fresh PvE missions, new enemies, weapons, and additional unannounced content.

Launched in September 2024, Space Marine 2 will mark its first anniversary with a substantial update slated for September. While Patch 10.0 promises significant additions, Patch 9.0, expected earlier, will focus solely on balance tweaks after a planned PvP mode was postponed to 10.0.

The upcoming PvP mode introduces a Chaos vs. Chaos showdown on a new map, featuring the chance to control the Helbrute. For those unfamiliar, the Helbrute is a Chaos Dreadnought variant, a fearsome machine piloted by a Chaos Space Marine encased in its armored core. You may recall the Helbrute’s defeat by the Ultramarines’ Brother Valtus in the Space Marine 2 campaign. This Chaos-themed PvP mode also brings new Chaos armors, a fan-favorite request.

Additionally, Patch 10.0 introduces the Power Axe, a new melee weapon with unique moves and execution animations. See a sneak peek below:

Datamines had hinted at the Power Axe, aligning with Games Workshop’s recent Space Wolves focus in the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game. Notably, IGN previously reported on Space Marine 2 modders who integrated the axe from Secret Level’s Warhammer 40,000 episode into the game.

THIS is why I’m a fan of Warhammer 40k! Hats off to @PrimeVideo for producing Secret Level: And They Shall Know No Fear. Watch it here: https://t.co/Gf0i2d0Rus

I highly recommend giving the entire 19 min episode a watch. It’s immersive and awesome. It’s a happy grim dark ray of… pic.twitter.com/iuYxprAo2J

Most thrilling of all, the new Techmarine class is confirmed for both PvE and PvP. While visuals are yet to be revealed, development is well underway, with more details expected in future community updates.

The Techmarine’s inclusion, hinted at in datamines via a ‘shoulder gun bolter’ perk, is no shock. Techmarines, for those new to the lore, are Space Marine engineers devoted to the Cult Mechanicus and their Chapter. They excel in repairing and maintaining vehicles and heavy machinery like Dreadnoughts.

With a wealth of new Space Marine 2 content on the horizon, it’s surprising to note the recent announcement of Space Marine 3 development. In the meantime, Patch 8.0 just rolled out, introducing Siege Mode, Space Marine 2’s take on a Horde mode.
