Author:Kristen Update:May 13,2025

As you embark on your journey in *Avowed*, you'll inevitably face higher-level enemies. To maintain your combat effectiveness, it's crucial to upgrade your gear to match or exceed the level of these adversaries. Here’s a detailed guide on how to upgrade your weapons and armor in *Avowed*.

Where to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in Avowed

In *Avowed*, you'll upgrade your weapons and armor at the Workbench, as shown in the image above. Each upgrade demands specific materials, which vary depending on the type of weapon or armor and its Quality. Most materials can be easily found or crafted within the game world. However, advancing a weapon from one Quality to another requires increasingly rare forms of Adra.

Workbenches are located at Party Camps. You can establish these camps at any Adra Waystone you discover in the game world. To set up a camp, interact with an Adra Waystone and choose the option to establish a Party Camp. Once set up, these locations will appear on your map marked with a tent icon, allowing you to fast travel to them.

How Weapon and Armor Leveling Works in Avowed

In *Avowed*, weapons and armor are tracked through two primary metrics: Quality and additional upgrades. Quality is denoted by a numerical value, a color rarity, and an adjective. This system aligns with the levels of enemies found in the Living Lands. Gear with a lower Quality and rarity than the enemies you face will be less effective in combat.

When battling enemies whose levels surpass your gear’s Quality, you’ll likely find your weapons dealing minimal damage and your armor offering less protection than expected. However, gear provides bonuses when used against enemies of the same or lower level. To keep up with the increasing difficulty, you should upgrade your weapons and armor to match the enemy levels. Here are the Quality levels in *Avowed*:

  • Common Quality – Green, Level I
  • Fine Quality – Blue, Level II
  • Exceptional – Purple, Level III
  • Superb – Red, Level IV
  • Legendary – Gold, Level V

Within each Quality, you can further upgrade your gear up to three additional times, marked as +0 through +3. These upgrades enhance the stats of your weapons and armor, though not as significantly as increasing the Quality. You must complete all three additional upgrades before you can elevate the Quality of your gear.

Avowed Weapon and Armor Additional Upgrades Explained

Each Quality level of gear in *Avowed* allows for three additional upgrade tiers. These upgrades, while less impactful than Quality increases, still provide valuable stat boosts. It's essential to max out these additional upgrades before attempting to raise the Quality of your gear.

Which Weapons and Armor Should You Upgrade in Avowed?

In *Avowed*, weapons and armor are categorized into standard and Unique types. Standard gear is commonly found throughout the world, either as loot or available for purchase from Merchants. Unique gear, on the other hand, consists of named, special items typically obtained through Main or Side Quests, or as drops from bosses or bounties. Some Merchants may also offer a limited selection of Unique gear for sale.

Unique weapons and armor can be upgraded to Legendary Quality, surpassing the Superb Quality limit of standard items. Additionally, Unique gear comes with extra bonuses and perks, making them far more valuable than standard gear. Therefore, it's advisable to focus your resources on upgrading Unique weapons and armor. Standard gear should be treated as disposable, used until you acquire and upgrade Unique items. You can sell standard gear to Merchants for Skeyt or break it down for resources to further enhance your Unique gear.
