Following the release of X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge, Edwards worked on a project tentatively titled "The Invincible Iron Man," reflecting the character's original comic book name. A subsequent post showcased original Xbox gameplay footage, including the startup screen and a desert-set tutorial segment.

Despite positive fan reaction, Activision cancelled "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. While Activision never publicly explained the cancellation, Edwards suggested several possibilities: delays to the film adaptation, dissatisfaction with the game's quality, or another developer securing the rights.

Many commented on Tony Stark's design, significantly different from Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU portrayal. Released nearly five years before the MCU, the suit resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book design of the early 2000s. Edwards stated the design was the artist's choice. He promised further gameplay footage, but at the time of writing, this remains unreleased.
