Napoleon Bonaparte, a staple of the Civilization series, returns in Civilization 7 (Civ 7). Unlocking him as a leader requires a few extra steps. Follow this guide to add him to your roster.

Unlocking Napoleon’s Emperor Persona

To unlock Napoleon’s Emperor Persona in Civilization 7, you’ll need a 2K Account. The process is straightforward—just follow these steps:

• Visit portal.2k.com.
• Log in to an existing 2K Account or create a new one.
• Link your 2K Account to your gaming platform via Connections -> Account Overview.

That’s it! You’ve unlocked Napoleon’s Emperor Persona in Civ 7. This leader excels in commerce and military power, with a unique ability called Empereur des Francais: “Grants a Unique Sanction, Continental System, reducing the target Leader’s Trade Route limit to others by 1, imposing a significant Relationship penalty, and increasing rejection costs. Earns +8 Gold per Age for each Leader you’re Unfriendly or Hostile with. Rejects Endeavors at no cost.”

Napoleon’s Emperor Persona follows the Napoleonic Code agenda, improving relations with the player who has the smallest army and straining ties with the player who commands the largest navy.

Unlocking Napoleon’s Revolutionary Persona

If the Emperor Persona doesn’t suit your playstyle, you can unlock Napoleon’s Revolutionary Persona in Civilization 7. This requires prior playtime in Civilization 6. Link your 2K Account to both Civ 6 and Civ 7 using the same steps outlined above. Once linked, the Revolutionary Persona will be available when you start the game.

Note that you don’t need to have played Civ 6 on the same platform as Civ 7 for this to work.

Napoleon’s Revolutionary Persona is a cultural and militaristic leader with the La Grande Armee ability: “Grants +1 Movement to all Land Units. Defeating an enemy Unit yields Culture equal to 50% of its Combat Strength.”

This persona’s agenda, Culture from Conquest, means Napoleon disapproves of leaders with many alliances but grants a relationship bonus to the player with the highest Culture Per Turn.
