Destined Rivals stands out as a premier set in the Scarlet and Violet era, packed with must-have chase cards. In our preview, we opened 46 packs and pulled 18 standout cards, including a mix of regular ex cards, one hyper rare, one SIR, one ultra rare, and five illustration rares. These are solid odds, but securing high-value cards like Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex SIR or Ethan's Ho-Oh ex SIR will likely require opening far more than 46 packs.

Consider the cost of booster packs. While you might uncover some exciting cards, the odds of pulling your desired chase card are slim. Why not purchase your target card directly at market value instead? The Destined Rivals singles market is already thriving ahead of its official release on May 30. To help collectors avoid stock shortages and inflated retail prices, here’s a curated list of the top chase cards from Destined Rivals, available for presale now and shipped on release day.

Hyper Rares are a niche favorite in the Scarlet and Violet era. They’re an acquired taste, but Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex shines in this style, as does Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex. These cards are also roughly half the price of their secret art rare counterparts, which are supposedly easier to pull than hyper rares.

Secret Art Rares are the crown jewels of every Scarlet and Violet set. While Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex SIR commands a staggering $599.99, Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex SIR and Arven’s Mabosstiff ex SIR are more affordable at $225 and $49.99, respectively.

In my view, the standout cards from Destined Rivals are the Illustration Rares. Cynthia’s Roserade boasts breathtaking artwork with a nostalgic late-80s anime aesthetic, crafted with exceptional detail. Ethan’s Typhlosion ranks among the finest artworks in the Scarlet and Violet era, capturing the dynamic bond between trainer and Pokémon—a core essence of the Pokémon experience. It’ll take something extraordinary to surpass this card’s artwork.

The Pokémon TCG singles market is undergoing a significant shift. Speculative reselling is cooling, and increased availability from reprints is helping stabilize supply. While challenges remain, this week’s market movers show recent cards dropping in price, while X and Y era cards are surging in value, signaling a positive trend.
