Switch 2 Pre-Order Invites: U.S., Canada Dates and Priority Details

Author:Kristen Update:May 05,2025

Pre-orders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 were initially scheduled to commence globally on April 9. However, due to economic disruptions stemming from Trump's tariffs, Nintendo had to postpone the pre-order start date in the United States and Canada. Despite these delays, pre-orders proceeded as planned in other regions, such as the UK.

According to an FAQ on Nintendo’s official website, the first round of pre-order invitations for the My Nintendo Store will be dispatched starting May 8, 2025. As of now, there is no information available regarding pre-orders at retail locations.

PlayNintendo plans to send additional batches of invitation emails on a "periodic" basis until pre-orders are opened to the general public on the My Nintendo Store.

The initial invitations will be sent out on a first-come, first-served basis to "eligible registrants who meet the priority criteria," as stated by Nintendo. Those receiving an invitation will have a 72-hour window from the time the email is sent to finalize their purchase.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:

  • You must have been the one who purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership
  • You must have had any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months
  • You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours
