Superman Unlimited Brings Marvel Mainstay Dan Slott Back to DC Comics

Author:Kristen Update:May 01,2025

DC Comics has announced the launch of Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series set to debut in May 2025. This exciting addition to the Superman universe marks the return of acclaimed writer Dan Slott to DC Comics, after spending the last two decades exclusively with Marvel. Slott, renowned for his work on titles like The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, is teaming up with artist Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Marcelo Maiolo for this new venture.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Slott stated, “He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him. Not just because of all the amazing powers he has, but because of who he is inside. Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too. If you’ve never read a Superman book, a DC book, or any comic book before—or if you’ve been a Superman fan your entire life—you couldn’t ask for a better place to take the leap and go all in than Superman Unlimited #1.”

In Superman Unlimited, the Man of Steel faces a perilous new reality after a Kryptonite asteroid showers the planet with Green K. This leads to adversaries like Intergang arming themselves with Kryptonite-fueled weapons, challenging Superman to develop new technologies and crime-fighting strategies. Additionally, Clark Kent navigates a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia conglomerate following its merger with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.

PlayDC group editor Paul Kaminski drew parallels between **Superman Unlimited** and the influential *Superman/Batman* series by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness, saying, “Superman Unlimited will capture the big, fun, high-flying adventures that Superman is known for, while also providing big moments for DC’s Superman-related comics with the introduction of a massive new Kryptonite deposit. Imagine a world where Superman is stopping a bank robbery, but every weapon is packed with Kryptonite ammunition and every petty criminal carries a Kryptonite shiv. This is a world of unlimited danger on a level that Superman, and DC’s Superman family of characters, has never faced before.”

Kaminski further highlighted the contrast with the recently launched Justice League Unlimited, noting, “In contrast, Slott and Albuquerque’s Superman Unlimited is a tale of unlimited Super-Villains that are super-charged by Kryptonite. Green K is everywhere. Superman is going to need to get to work and adapt to survive. Every line of Dan’s pitch is packed with surprises and every line Rafa draws is stunning… 2025 is truly going to be Superman UNLIMITED.”

The prelude to Slott and Albuquerque's run will be featured in the DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1, releasing on May 3, 2025, with Superman Unlimited #1 hitting shelves on May 21, just before the premiere of James Gunn's Superman film on July 11.
