Suikoden series’ upcoming mobile game, Suikoden STAR LEAP, promises to deliver a console-like quality with the ease of access that mobile gaming provides. Dive in to discover how the developers crafted Star Leap and how it aligns with the broader Suikoden universe.
Suikoden’s latest venture, Suikoden STAR LEAP, is set to bring the beloved series to mobile platforms with an experience reminiscent of console gaming. In an interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, Star Leap's developers shed light on their approach to crafting this game.
Star Leap Producer Shinya Fujimatsu explained the decision to go mobile, stating, "Our goal was to make Suikoden accessible to as many people as possible, and mobile is the most convenient platform for that. Yet, we wanted to ensure it retains the true essence of Suikoden, which is why we are striving to create a game that matches the quality of our numbered titles."
The team is committed to delivering a game that combines the visual, auditory, and narrative excellence of console games with the convenience of mobile gaming.
Fujimatsu emphasized the unique blend of war themes and friendship that defines Suikoden, saying, "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, it’s crucial to portray the saga of the new 108 stars, capturing the essence of Suikoden Genso."
Director Yoshiki Meng Shan highlighted the series' characteristic blend of light-hearted camaraderie with serious moments. He added, "Another distinctive feature is the battle tempo, where numerous characters engage and collaborate, a hallmark of Suikoden."
Star Leap will serve as both a sequel and prequel, traversing different eras within the Suikoden universe. As a new installment, it will be woven into the series’ official timeline, starting two years before the events of Suikoden 1 and extending across various periods, effectively linking Suikoden 1 to 5.
Fujimatsu expressed optimism about the game's appeal, stating, "Even newcomers to the series will find Star Leap easy to pick up and engage with, thanks to its mobile-friendly design and accessible storytelling. We hope it serves as an inviting entry point into ‘Suikoden Genso’."
Meng Shan echoed this enthusiasm, noting, "As one of Japan's premier RPG series, we've meticulously crafted every aspect of Star Leap—from the narrative and graphics to the battle and training systems—to honor Suikoden’s legacy. We eagerly await your feedback upon release."
Suikoden STAR LEAP was unveiled during the Suikoden Live broadcast on March 4, 2025, alongside other exciting projects in the series. The game is in development for iOS and Android, though an official release date has yet to be announced.
