Street Fighter 6 Fans Celebrate February 5

Summary

  • Mai Shiranui will join the roster of Street Fighter 6 on February 5, bringing her iconic moves with unique modifications.
  • Players can enjoy her classic outfit and new costumes from Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, along with motion input moves.
  • Her storyline involves searching for Terry's brother Andy in Metro City, leading to confrontations with various challengers.

A new gameplay trailer for Street Fighter 6 offers fans an in-depth look at Mai Shiranui, confirming her addition to the game in just a few weeks. The excitement for more content in Street Fighter 6 has been palpable, especially after the release of the second Year 2 DLC character, Terry, on September 24, 2024, which left a significant gap in content updates.

Capcom surprised many at Summer Game Fest by announcing a second year of content for Street Fighter 6. The announcement was warmly received, particularly because it included a collaboration with SNK to bring iconic fighters Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui into the game. Alongside them, M. Bison and Elena were also confirmed as part of the Year 2 DLC. With Bison and Terry already available, anticipation for Mai's release is building.

The latest trailer showcases Mai Shiranui in her classic Fatal Fury costume and her new look from the upcoming City of the Wolves. Capcom has ensured that Street Fighter 6's version of Mai will resonate with longtime fans, while introducing unique properties to her moves. Instead of charge attacks, Mai's moves will now use motion inputs. She retains her fan-based attacks and other signature moves, and can earn "Flame Stacks" to enhance her abilities further.

Capcom has also teased Mai's narrative arc in Street Fighter 6. Unlike Terry, who sought to test his skills against formidable opponents, Mai's mission is straightforward: she's in Metro City to track down Terry's brother Andy, whom she believes visited recently. This quest leads her to face off against other characters, including Juri, challenging her skills and prowess.

The extended wait between DLC releases has led to some frustration among fans, compounded by the relative silence from Capcom on major updates and the game's battle pass system. The recent Boot Camp Bonanza battle pass, while offering a variety of customization items, disappointed some fans due to the absence of new character skins, a feature that was regularly updated in Street Fighter 5.
