Stellar Blade developer Shift Up is offering its fans a better idea of what's coming next for the game. Because it's one of the most popular releases of the year, Stellar Blade has many fans who are eagerly anticipating more information about the release. Although there have been some updates that tweaked aspects of the game and added challenges to keep fans playing, Shift Up is solidifying a plan for the future.
Although Shift Up has made progress on other updates, the developer has recently focused its efforts toward ironing out issues with performance in Stellar Blade, and overall improving quality of life for the players. Progress appears to be steady, but some have wanted a better look at what the future holds for the company, whether related to Stellar Blade's success or development for other releases altogether.
In a presentation led by Shift Up CFO Ahn Jae-woo, the company explained when and what to expect in upcoming updates for the game. Fans who want Stellar Blade's Photo Mode will get it some time around August. Players who want to try out new skins can expect the developer to prepare them after October. Additionally, Shift Up noted that a "large collaboration" is planned for the end of the year. Paul Tassi of Forbes guesses that it will be a Nier collab, which would make sense based on the good rapport between both games' directors and Stellar Blade's noted Nier: Automata inspiration.
Stellar Blade Update Roadmap
Photo Mode - around August New skins - prepared after October Large collaboration - end of 2024 Sequel confirmed, Paid DLC is being considered
Ahn Jae-woo also noted that preparations for the PC release of Stellar Blade are continuing. Furthermore, he expressed confidence in sales of the release, commenting on the estimated over one million copies sold and discussing the way that releases such as Ghost of Tsushima and Detroit: Become Human have accumulated sales reaching from three to almost seven million copies. The company as well as some fans have expressed the sentiment that selling one million copies for a new IP is impressive.
There is an air of optimism regarding continued success for Stellar Blade, which leads some to the expectation of a sequel. Shift Up is interested in developing paid DLC, and it has plans for a Stellar Blade sequel, but that appears to be all that can be confirmed at the moment. The company is particularly focused on its more immediate plans for the game's future, so there may be a longer wait for other information. Until then, there is plenty to look forward to with the current roadmap that is set.
