Steam FPS Game Development Halted Due to Developer's Incarceration

Steam FPS Game Development Halted Due to Developer

Fortune's Run, a Steam FPS game, faces an indefinite delay due to its sole developer, Dizzie, receiving a three-year prison sentence. This unique circumstance, unlike typical delays caused by financial or technical issues, halts all development until Dizzie's release.

Despite its early access status, Fortune's Run had garnered a "Very Positive" Steam rating, praised for its nostalgic art style and gameplay. However, all updates are now on hold. While the game's Steam page targets a 2026 release from early access, this is highly unlikely given the circumstances. The developer's statement, posted on January 14th, detailed the three-year sentence resulting from a prior, unrelated crime. Dizzie described themselves as "a very violent person" during that time. Although the specific crime remains undisclosed, the situation highlights an unusual cause for game development delays.

Prior to the developer's imprisonment announcement, Fortune's Run had a second team member, but they departed following a surgical complication and subsequent loss of interest in game development. Dizzie's imprisonment, beginning in February 2025, leaves the game's future uncertain, though Dizzie expressed confidence in completing the game upon release. Players can still access the current early access build, and numerous other early access shooters on Steam offer alternatives in the interim. While long early access periods are common for indie games (Satisfactory, for example, spent over five years), Fortune's Run's three-year delay is a significant setback.
