Star Wars Hunters Announces Shut Down Just 9 Months After Launch, Steam Release Appears Scrapped

Author:Kristen Update:Jun 16,2025

Star Wars Hunters, the free-to-play team-based battle arena game developed by NaturalMotion and published by Zynga, is set to shut down less than a year after its release. Originally launched on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android in June 2024, the game will see its final content update released on April 15, 2025, with full server shutdown scheduled for October 1, 2025.

IGN’s Star Wars: Hunters review, which awarded the game a 7/10, described it as "Impressive for a bit, but probably not a place you’ll want to hang around for too long." That early critique now appears particularly foresightful.

Zynga stated that the decision was made “after careful consideration” and emphasized its commitment to supporting players through the transition period. The company expressed gratitude for the community's support, noting that the decision was not taken lightly.

In terms of updates, Season 5 will be extended by three weeks starting March 25, featuring re-runs of previous events and shop bundles. The Ranked Season will also be prolonged, giving players more time to reach the top rank—Kyber 1.

April 15 marks the arrival of the last major content patch, available for free across all platforms. In-game purchases will be disabled from this point onward. As part of the final update, a new Support Hunter named Tuya will be added to the roster and made playable for all users at no cost. Additional in-game content will accompany her release.

Zynga will continue to rotate all game modes and battlefields, while also maintaining a final Ranked Mode leaderboard for competitive players.

Interestingly, there has been no mention of the previously announced PC version slated for Steam early access. The Steam page now states that the title is “no longer available on the Steam store.”

For Zynga, Star Wars Hunters represented a significant step forward—it was the first title from the mobile-focused studio to launch on consoles, and plans were in place to debut the company's inaugural PC title. Yaron Leyvan, Executive Vice President of Games at Zynga, had expressed excitement about the expansion back in November:

“The success of Star Wars: Hunters on mobile and Nintendo Switch devices has led to our decision to expand the game to PC. This is something our community of fans have been asking for and we are very excited to welcome even more players to Vespaara. This moment also marks a milestone for Zynga as we bring one of our games to PC for the first time.”

Despite these ambitions, the project is being brought to an earlier-than-expected close.

However, the broader Star Wars gaming universe remains active. Upcoming titles include Respawn Entertainment’s third entry in the Star Wars Jedi series and Bit Reactor’s turn-based tactics game, both expected to be showcased at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
