Square Enix Unveils Kingdom Hearts 4, Promises to Meet Fan Expectations

Author:Kristen Update:Jun 02,2025

Square Enix has once again confirmed the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 4, following yesterday's indirect acknowledgment. In a brand-new social media post accompanied by captivating images, the developer leaves no room for doubt about the game's progress.

Yesterday, Square Enix announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, the GPS-based action-RPG for mobile. However, the company reassured Kingdom Hearts fans that Kingdom Hearts 4 remains very much in development.

“We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue to pour ourselves into its development,” the first of two posts read, alongside a collage showcasing character designs, cinematic stills, combat scenes, platforming elements, and even a glimpse of an imposing enemy.

The second post expressed gratitude for fans' excitement and patience, stating, “We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right.” This marks the first official update in months, with the last being a subtle teaser back in January. Despite unveiling a full cinematic trailer in September 2022, Square Enix had been largely silent until now.

Series director Tetsuya Nomura hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will mark the beginning of the narrative's conclusion after 22 years and across 18 previous games.

Regarding the canceled Missing-Link, Square Enix apologized to fans and explained the decision was made due to concerns about providing long-term satisfaction to players.
