Squad Busters 2.0 Launches on Android Before First Anniversary

Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with the launch of its monumental 2.0 update on May 13th. Since its debut in 2024, the game has struggled to capture the audience Supercell had hoped for. But with this extensive update, could things finally turn around?

This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two

Squad Busters 2.0 isn't just a minor update; it's a complete overhaul, living up to its name as a reboot. The gameplay mechanics, from how battles are conducted to how victories are achieved, are undergoing a significant transformation.

One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their squad into battle. These Heroes are inspired by existing characters, and the stakes are high—if your Hero falls, the match is over for you.

Combat dynamics are also being revamped. No longer do you need to halt to engage in fights; movement and combat are now seamlessly integrated, resulting in faster-paced, more intense, and chaotic battles.

The way to win has been altered as well. Instead of clearing the entire opposing team, your goal is now to take down the enemy Hero. This shift has sparked some comparisons to Brawl Stars, leading to mixed reactions among the player base.

Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features

In this update, several game modes are being removed, including Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder. Additionally, some older skins and progression systems are being phased out. Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items to ease the transition.

It's clear why Supercell is pushing these changes so quickly. Squad Busters hasn't yet reached the popularity levels of Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars.

With the 2.0 update and the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell is aiming to reignite player interest. Daily piñata events are set to kick off soon, offering players a chance to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
