Splatoon 4 on the Horizon? Fans React to Update Conclusion

Nintendo has confirmed the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. While this marks a significant shift, the game isn't entirely abandoned. Holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, alongside ongoing monthly challenges, weapon adjustments, and balance patches as needed.

The official Twitter (now X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

This news follows the September 16th conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival, commemorated with a retrospective video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio. Nintendo's closing message: "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!"

Splatoon 3's two-year run, coupled with the cessation of active development, has fueled anticipation for a sequel. Theories surrounding Splatoon 4 development are gaining traction.

Intriguing in-game locations spotted during the Grand Festival event have sparked debate among fans. Some believe these locations hint at a new city in a future Splatoon installment.

Responding to images of a futuristic city, one fan commented, "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" However, others remain skeptical, suggesting the locations are simply variations of existing Splatsville environments.

Although there's no official confirmation of Splatoon 4, rumors have persisted for months. Reports suggest Nintendo has begun development on a new Splatoon title for the Switch. The Grand Festival, being the final major Splatfest, further strengthens fan belief in an imminent sequel.

Historically, Final Fests have influenced subsequent Splatoon sequels, leading to speculation about a "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4. Until Nintendo makes an official announcement, however, the wait for concrete news continues.
